What's in an Engagement Letter?

Why Law Firms Partner With Scribe & Pen

Overview of Services & Supervision

Scribe & Pen, LLC provides professional paralegal support tailored to legal practitioners. Our services include drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, and trial preparation materials, as well as performing legal research and contract analysis.

  • Attorney Supervision: Service Provider is not a licensed attorney and does not provide legal advice. All work product is prepared for professional use under the direct supervision of the client attorney, who remains responsible for its accuracy and legal sufficiency.

  • Turnaround Expectations: While standard engagement terms reference a 10-business-day timeline, which accommodates most statutory notice periods, discovery deadlines, and motion responses, our primary goal is to complete work product much faster. Turnaround timelines can be tailored to align with specific practice area demands and individual firm requirements upon request.

  • Communication & Submissions: All project requests and supporting documentation must be submitted via email. Telephone communications regarding services must be promptly documented in writing.

Fee Schedule & Payment Terms

Our rates reflect the level of turnaround required and the nature of the assignment. All services are billed in 0.1-hour increments.

  • Standard Turnaround (10 Business Days): $55.00 / hour

  • Expedited Turnaround (<10 Business Days): $75.00 / hour (subject to availability)

  • Trial, Hearing, Deposition, or Mediation Prep: $100.00 / hour (with or without attendance)

  • Travel Rate: Billable at the applicable standard hourly rate, one way, for travel beyond one (1) mile from our primary location, plus reimbursement for reasonable expenses (IRS mileage rate, tolls, parking, or pre-approved travel expenses).

  • Annual Adjustment: Rates are subject to a 3% annual increase, effective each year on the contract anniversary date.

  • Invoicing: Invoices are issued monthly and specify dates, client matter, service descriptions, and hours worked. Payment is due within ten (10) days of the invoice date via check payable to Scribe & Pen LLC or via Zelle.

While expedited work carries a higher rate to accommodate tight filing windows, we understand that urgent deadlines are built into practice areas such as criminal or family law or emergency court proceedings. We are always open to discussing custom turnaround structures or recurring arrangements to fit your firm’s specific workflow upon request.

Confidentiality & Practice Protocols

We maintain strict standards to protect client data and comply with professional responsibilities.

  • Confidentiality: All client and matter information is maintained in strict confidence and will not be disclosed to third parties without prior written consent, surviving the termination of any agreement.

  • Conflicts of Interest: We perform thorough conflict checks prior to accepting any assignment. Information from one matter is never shared or discussed with other clients.

  • Independent Contractor Status: Scribe & Pen, LLC operates solely as an independent contractor. The client attorney controls the final result, while Scribe & Pen retains discretion over the means and methods of execution.

  • Termination: Engagement may be terminated by either party upon ten (10) days' written notice, or immediately in the event of a material breach. The client remains responsible for all fees and expenses incurred up to the date of termination.
